It keeps happening at our counter. A client walks in carrying his own oil — not because we asked him to, but because he will not put anything else in his car. The oil is always the same one: AMSOIL.

This week alone it happened three times. A Mustang owner brought AMSOIL for his transmission. Another client had us install it in his car before. And an Audi driver — a true fanatic about his machine, the kind of owner we love — called us, talked oil for half an hour, and is bringing his AMSOIL with him when he comes in. When the same bottle keeps walking through your door carried by your most demanding clients, you pay attention.

What is AMSOIL, exactly?

AMSOIL is an American company from Superior, Wisconsin, founded by Lt. Col. Albert J. Amatuzio, a fighter-jet squadron commander. In the 1960s he asked a simple question: jet engines run only on synthetic lubricants because nothing else survives them — so why are cars running on anything less? In 1972 his company released the first synthetic motor oil in the world to meet API service requirements. Their tagline ever since: The First in Synthetics.

The line today covers motor oils (their flagship is the Signature Series), transmission fluids, gear lubes and a European formula built for engines like Audi and Volkswagen. These are premium, fully synthetic products with a following that borders on devotion — the clients who use them tend to know exactly why, down to the chemistry.

Why your client is carrying it in

Here's the part most people don't know: you can't just buy AMSOIL anywhere. AMSOIL never went to the big-box stores or the national chains. Since 1973 it has been sold through a network of independent dealers — people who explain the product face to face. That's why believers order theirs, keep it in the garage, and carry it to the shop they trust. The bottle in the client's hand isn't an accident. It's the distribution model.

How we handle it at Alfa Garage

Our house oil is Mobil 1, and it earns its place every day. But when a client is an AMSOIL believer, we don't argue with his religion — we install it the way it deserves:

One honest note, because honesty is the house rule: if your car is still under its factory warranty, what matters is that the oil meets the manufacturer's specification — we check that with you before we pour, so your coverage is never put at risk by a label.

Should you switch?

If you're already an AMSOIL driver, you speak a language we respect — bring yours, or ask us at the counter: our clients keep asking, so we're putting it on our shelf. If you're curious, ask us straight. We'll tell you where AMSOIL makes sense for your car and the way you drive, and where our house oil already does everything you need. No pressure either way. That's what the reference point does.
